Our Garden Is Planted!

We raced back from Kokomo today so that we could get our garden planted before we ran out of daylight. Well, it's 8:30pm and we just finished so we made it! Barely.

We expanded our garden by about 12 square feet this year and tried some new things, so we are excited to see how everything turns out.

But first - we were so excited this morning because we noticed that there are about 100 peaches on our peach tree that we planted next year! Everyone better be expecting bags full of peaches this summer because I have a feeling we will trying to get them off our hands before they go bad!

I do not start our vegetables from seed. Some people say it's cheating, but I say it is just plain easier, and really not that expensive. Here is how the day started out after returned from Lowes.

Of course, we did not have to do anything with the strawberries because they just grow like weeds and never die! We have a good amount of berries on them now, so I hope that the bids don't get to them all before we do!

And here is the almost finished product. The massive quantity of strawberries is on the right hand side. We planted more tomatoes than we have before, so we are short about three tomato cages.

We planted five different types of tomatoes ranging from cherry tomatoes to Big Boy tomatoes that can get up to 32 ounces in size. I saw that and just had to see what happens. We also planted eggplant, cucumbers, zucchini, bell peppers (red, green, and yellow), and sweet potatoes. This will be my first year trying eggplant and sweet potatoes - let's hope it goes well! I also need to go back and get green beans and possibly asparagus...

I love growing our vegetables. It was so much fun last year to watch everything grow and then enjoy them when ready. We garden organically so it makes me feel better knowing that what we are eating is free from all non-organic chemicals/pesticides. Of course, anything that we don't have I just run to the Carmel Farmers Market every Saturday and pick it up!
